Artist Statement
Adrianne Dimitrakakis is the artist behind Atlas. A contemporary artist, her work draws on a vintage aesthetic to capture memories of places passed through and those still waiting to be discovered.
Inspired by her travels, she finds beauty in the small details along the way and practice is rooted in travel, curiosity, and cultural exchange. Her work is a way of digesting the experiences she gathers across different places, reflecting on the unique rhythms of everyday life and the perspectives of the people she encounters.
With a love for objects worn by time and carrying their own stories,Adrianne combines vivid hues, heavy worn textures along with a playful tone to remind viewers of life’s simple pleasures and not to take it all too seriously.
Her artistic journey began during her years working in marketing for a surf company, where frequent travel for photoshoots and surf trips took her to remote archipeliglos. There, she began sketching, photographing these places on her discoveries, creating illustrations that reflected her encounters with different coastlines and cultures.
From this storytelling her full-time practice emerged and Atlas was born.Adrianne continues to travel widely, documenting each place through sketches and visual notes and transforming them into collection of works that capture the experience and visions.
